I love when clients choose me based on my style over any other reason. A photographer’s style is what sets them apart. I like to think that my personality shines through the lens – it lets me capture each family I photograph in a distinctive way and that uniqueness is carried through in how I edit my portraits. I want each clients portraits to have the look that only Jennifer Willard Photography can give. Because in the end the art I produce is a reflection of me and my personal growth in my artistic journey. I don’t outsource my editing as some photographers do, as I find that takes away from the ability to say I produced this image from start to finish. And so I edit each image individually so that I can focus on what aspects of that particular image need to be the center focus….which aspects need to shine.
I have many potential clients say they come to me for the emotional impact my images make on them. When they are going through my portfolio online they are instantly taken with the infectious smiles of the children I capture and the real emotion I capture between loved ones. That is my number one goal. I want to make sure I get great eye connection with each subject and real, genuine emotion radiating out of every picture. Because if a photograph doesn’t move you then what is the point? You want to look back at a picture that was taken years ago and say “Wow! Look how happy they were!” That’s what’s real. That’s what I want to capture…every. single. time. Things like composition and light, and all the rest that goes with knowing your craft is important too but i will sacrifice those elements for a real emotion, a real twinkle in the eye, a real laugh, everytime. I’m passionate about capturing those emotions. I think it shows. I like to think that is why people come to me, from as far away as an hour in both directions from Ottawa to Kingston.
It’s important to find a photographer that matches your ideal style. Is it emotion you are attracted to? Is it a particular use of colour from bold to muted that catches your eye?
