I’ve been working hard the last couple of months on getting everything ready for the launch of my Beauty Brand in April.  Although I have taken many beautiful portraits of women as Brides or Moms in family sessions, this will be the first time I truly focus on working with women individually on an everyday basis.  I run Boudoir marathons at least once a year and I love them – they are fun but more importantly they empower everyday women to feel good about themselves and that is something I’ve always wanted to incorporate into my everyday photography business.  The time to do that is now.  I want to empower women more than once a year to feel good about themselves.  I think as women we have these preconceived notions on what we look like that no one else sees.  As a photographer I have the ability to see something beautiful in every person I meet, something that makes them interesting and makes me want to photograph them.  I’ve always been interested in women.  Everything about women.  Let me explain.

I went to the University of Windsor and then later on Carleton University to pursue a History degree.  I knew going in to school I was going to focus on people.  I’ve always been interested in people.  What makes them tick?  How have people evolved over time?  And the more I pursued this love of learning about people I started focusing my knowledge on specific groups.  Before attending University I discovered that I was Metis.  My great grandmother was Algonquin and it kind of confirmed my intuitive nature when it came to learning about native history.  I found it fascinating and would even read University text books about the subjects of natives or other first peoples in highschool.  So attending University and taking subjects related to the history of the first people of modern day Canada was a no brainer.  Then you need to take in to account that I was raised as a feminist, someone who believes in equal rights for both men and women, and my love of women’s history began.  “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger.  Women are already strong.  It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” (G.D. Anderson). I eagerly learned about different women and how they affected their cultures from Japan to Canada, what they did for work, how their communities perceived them and ultimately how women helped forge their own independence from men.  I loved reading the inspiring stories of bravery throughout the world.

You see it all kind of ties together.  Women empowering women.  Women helping women overcome trials and tribulations to forge their own successes in work, society and home.  I’d like to think I’ve come full circle in my life where I want to use the idea of empowering women through my own success with Jennifer Willard Photography.  I’ve seen first hand how my portraits of women can boost self-esteems, making women feel better about themselves and enter their world with fresh eyes about their own self worth.  That’s powerful stuff.  How we view ourselves has been ingrained for years, sometimes it only takes one picture to throw us all back to believing that we are worthy of love by our own selves.  If we don’t love ourselves first then how can we expect others to love us.

I came across this quote:  “Your greatest self has been waiting your whole life; don’t make it wait any longer.”  -(Dr. Steve Maraboli).  That’s a powerful quote right there.  We need to love ourselves.  We need to believe in ourselves and our own self-worth.  I believe that in my own way I can help women believe in themselves again.  I can open their eyes to the beauty that lies within and without.

Women will book their beauty session for different reasons.  Maybe it will be to celebrate turning 50 and accepting that age is only a number.  Maybe it will be celebrating 20 years of friendship with your best buds.  Maybe you made the decision to become healthier and happier and have been working hard to achieve your goals and want to celebrate your accomplishments.  If in your beauty session you would like to include boudoir images then we will get a wide range of beauty shots and boudoir shots.  This session is for the woman who wants to do something for herself, just because she can.  Because she deserves it.  She deserves to do something nice for herself and to put herself first.  We don’t do that enough these days.  And I think to have healthy and happy lives we do need to take care of ourselves.  Like I said this is my way of helping women feel good about themselves.  The experience will be one that you will never forget, that you may even long to do again and again over the course of your life.  It’s a session we custom design to fit your dream photoshoot experience.  You are worth it.

But what’s this Glamour title all about?  Well I’ve been taking a workshop with a really top-notch New Zealand photographer that never stopped taking Glamour portraits after the fallout in the 90’s.  She decided that instead of throwing in the towel, she would re-invent the Glamour shot.  Taking out the boas and following a fashion-forward, contemporary modern women’s portrait model, and it has started a trend where women do something for themselves because they are worthy of the time, money and effort of having their dream photoshoot.  I’m really excited about where this brand is heading and I hope you will join me on this journey.  If you are interested in a contemporary, fashion-inspired modern beauty session then I would love to hear from you!  You can contact me by phone at 613-464-2292 or by email at info@jenniferwillardphotography.ca.

The soft launch will be taking place at the Wedding Show at the Parkside Inn and Spa Best Western in Perth, Ontario on March 25th with the official launch on April 14th my 4 year anniversary of the launch of Jennifer Willard Photography.  There will be a great Mother/Daughter special at the show so be sure to stop by to see what it’s all about.  Because your daughter getting married is a big deal for mama’s too and what better way to celebrate this transition in your daughters life then both of you having a double makeover and photoshoot together!
