I love celebrating baby’s first Christmas because it’s such a special event for not only baby who gets to see fun twinkling lights for the first time and see all those colourful wrapped presents but because baby’s parents have longed dreamed of what it would be like to have a little baby in their home to celebrate the big holidays during the year.  Would their baby giggle while playing with wrapping paper?  Would their baby enjoy all of the new presents that are lavished on them from not only their parents but all their aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents?  How many baby’s first Christmas novelty items would they receive?  Would their baby remember the incredible holiday at all?  And while the answer to the last question is probably a resounding no, the joy of having the baby you anticipated for 9 months plus all those years of dreaming of what a Christmas with a baby might actually be like is like no other.  This is the time to start holiday traditions, to help your baby if they are able put the star at the top of the tree, make cookies and decorate gingerbread houses.  It’s a special time of year but when you have a child to share it with, the holiday season becomes a magical time where dreams come true and childhood memories are made.

Baby Jacob came into the Kingston portrait studio for his 6 month milestone pictures and to celebrate his first Christmas!  I’m positive that having Jacob celebrate this Christmas with his parents and extended family was such a magical time.  He probably loved every minute of it!  I happily created a special Christmas set for him to help them celebrate this wonderful time in their lives and I must say that Jacob loved his sleigh ride!!!  We also incorporated a special crate made for Jacob when he was a newborn from a special family member and we got to play dress up with all of the adorable outfits mom and dad brought in for his time in the studio.  He was full of big smiles and I just loved every minute of the time I spent with him and his parents!

Let’s take a look at some of our favourites from our time together!

Jacob really was such a special little guy to meet and I so enjoyed having him visit me in the studio!

If you loved Jacob’s portraits and are looking for a special way to celebrate your baby’s milestones during their first year of life, we would encourage you to have a professional portrait session taken in our Kingston studio.  It’s a very relaxed session, taking time for snuggles and food when needed, and we work our way through about 3 sets in a variety of poses that show off their small features, tiny details, and hopefully big grins.  We love baby photography so much that we specialize in it!  Each one makes our hearts happy and leaves us with a smile on our faces.  We love creating portraits that you will want to proudly display on your wall whether that’s in your baby’s adorable nursery, family portrait hallway, or gracing your living room walls.  The fine art portraits we create will be a visual history of your child’s life and we are so very happy to be a part of many Kingston family’s albums.

Baby Milestones are so monumental in their first year of life that we recommend documenting them every 3-4 months.  First with the coveted newborn portrait session where we lovingly hand-edited a collection of portraits that will show their tiny size, our curated style and the new family connection in your family’s first professional portrait together.  We recommend photographing newborns within their first month of life if you would like those dreamy tucked positions but do consider baby’s to be newborns until 3 months old.  Next, we recommend choosing to wait until baby is about 4 months old.  The milestone we are hoping to reach is that of baby being able to lift her head while on her belly.  It creates a wider variety of portraits during our session and it is an important milestone that baby’s achieve.  After that we recommend the 6-7 month portrait session where baby can sit unassisted while still having a parent spotter near by in case baby decides to wobble sideways or backwards.  We practice safety first with all of our props and will not jeopardize this safety if we feel that your baby is unstable in any way.  Some babies have greater mobility then others and so we have a variety of set ups ready in case we need to change a pre-conceived set we had planned.  Each baby is unique and it’s important to remember that and have a relaxed, comfortable and fun photography session.  Waiting until your baby is almost 7 months old allows us to have a better chance of baby sitting up with ease.  These sessions are soooo much fun because baby’s are so smiley!  I love that!  BUT I will say that I love when a baby has big, soulful eyes as well!  So really I love all babies all the time!  The last but certainly entertaining baby milestone portraits are the wonderful 12 month first year baby sessions.  It’s so neat to see a baby at this age because every single baby is different!  Some are still crawling or scooting around on their bums while others are speedy racers running around the studio.  We take our time because as anyone with a 12 month old can attest, baby’s at this age can easily cry if we keep trying to get them to do what we want.  There is a lot of mom or dad bringing baby back to the middle of the set and often times some singing involved to keep them engaged as baby’s at this age are CURIOUS!  They want to explore and are not interested in getting their portraits taken.  Of course, when you bring in cake that’s a whole other can of worms.  They will definitely stay for cake, I mean who could blame them really.  We usually recommend that they come around 11-11.5months old, that gives us time to edit them before the big birthday bash so you can give them to your guests with their thank you cards {which we also design by the way}.  We create 2-3 sets, and can end with a fun cake smash at the end which is totally optional!

If all of this sounds amazing and you are excited about having professional portraits of your baby, with beautiful lighting, styling, and attention for detail then we would love to hear from you!  We encourage you to check out the different tabs on our page to get to know us and find out what you can expect from a photography session with us.  Once you’re ready to book please use the contact page to become a client and we’ll get started with the planning process right away.  We’re really looking forward to working with you and we hope you are just as excited about having high quality fine art portraits of your favourite person taken!

Have a fantastic day!!!
