Little Elijah was such a sweetheart at his newborn session! I so enjoyed meeting his two Mom’s and creating gorgeous portraits of not only Elijah but I convinced them to get a family portrait too – you’ll never regret getting your portrait taken with your new baby no matter how you are feeling after delivering your new favourite person. It’s always worth the effort!
From the onset of planning we knew we were going to incorporate some Harry Potter themed personal items that decorated their home and nursery and at the session we worked together to create a Harry Potter set incorporating their Hogwarts Flag, wand, firebolt, broomstick which I think could have been a Nimbus 2000, Maurader’s Map (always up to no good), a Horcrux and Hedwig the Owl in his cage. I added in some old weathered books, a cauldron, chair for Mr. Elijah to sit in, some vials for potions, dragons eggs (thank you to my kids for those!), old gold picture frames and the magic of photoshop added in swirling smoke, Harry Potter glasses and pictures from the castle for the frames. Elijah had a handmade hat, scarf and diaper cover made for him in Gryffindor’s colours so altogether it was a labour of love but created a one of a kind set that was perfect for their home. Incorporating personal items into your sets are always encouraged!
Keeping with the Harry Potter newborn photoshoot theme we used the Gryffindor colours throughout the session with burgundy and mustard yellow as our main colours. Elijah was also born near Christmas so we created a set that tied that in as well. It was a lot of fun to create and a lot of fun to photograph.
It really was a joy to meet them all and I wish Elijah’s Mom’s’ all the best with their motherhood journey’s! Thank you again for choosing me to photograph Elijah – it was my honour. I can’t wait to see Elijah when he is older and look forward to our 6 month session together!
If you loved Elijah’s session and want to leave a comment please feel free! I know his parents would love to hear from other Harry Potter fans! And if you would like to inquire about booking your own unique newborn session we would love to hear from you! We are booking April-October newborn due dates and you can get a hold of us through the contact tab on our website.
Enjoy your day!

This next set was a lot of effort and colloboration between Elijah’s two Mom’s and myself. They had so many great Harry Potter themed props in their home and nursery that they brought in including the Hogwart’s Crest, Horcrux, broomstick which I think was the Nimbus 2000, Hedwig who is Harry’s owl with cage, magic wand, Gryffindor hat, scarf and tie, and the Marauder’s Map because obviously Elijah might be up to no good creating his magic spell from his spell book. I added in the cauldron, old picture frames that I added images from the Hogwarts castle in, old books and luggage, dragon’s eggs thanks to my kids, and added in a little smoke and magic in photoshop. It just so happens that this was when Elijah decided to be very wide awake but we made it work and a custom Harry Potter themed set was born. So much fun and so very worth the effort we put into creating it!
Two Happy Mama’s with their gorgeous son!
We added in a few images using different colours as well that we thought went well with the theme. I just love this image below!
Elijah was born around Christmas so we had to do one Christmas set to celebrate!
