Beautiful Mariana Grace was just 4 days old and just over 6 lbs when she came into the studio for her newborn portraits. With Mom Joanna’s planned induction we were able to schedule her session in ahead of time so that Mariana’s Grandmother who was here visiting from the US could be there to watch the whole thing and get in some generational portraits. Mariana is the first grandchild on both sides of the family so there has been a lot of excitement and anticipation over her arrival.

I always encourage clients to bring in special heirloom albums that they may want to include in their new baby’s pictures and Mariana has some special items that were saved just for her. A special handmade cradle from a dear family friend in Egpyt was the perfect size and I’m sure will be loved by Mariana as she grows up and plays baby dolls with it. A handmade quilt that was Mariana’s mom’s when she was little that had the prettiest pinks and blues in it. We were able to incorporate those accent colours into the sets as well so that she could have a cohesive look to any gallery wall they may want to create with their portraits. We also included a Bible that meant a lot to Mariana’s Grandmother. Incorporating heirloom items that mean a lot to your family can really make your pictures unique and memorable. And how neat will it be to show Mariana the picture of her in the cradle when she’s older!

I really loved the colour palette that Joanna, Mariana’s mom chose for their photoshoot. Using really pretty neutrals of Cream, White and Grey and hints of pink and blue we had a well rounded use of colours to create pretty sets that would compliment Mariana. With the use of the dark wood of the cradle I felt that adding in a bit of brown and a camel colour would help with the cohesive look and you’ll see that incorporated in with the camel coloured fur rug and brown flowers used in the cradle portrait.

Congratulations again to Mariana’s parents and family! It’s always exciting to have a new baby in the family especially if it’s your first!
