Soren was such a pleasure to photograph in the studio. Mom and Dad wanted to incorporate some really rich and bold colours that reminded them of Peru where they met and wanted Soren’s half Canadian and half Indian heritage to shine through. It was so fun to mix and match their chosen colour palette and I know Soren’s parents just loved what we created together! Bold colours are a fave of mine for sure!
Enjoy a look at some of their favourites!
We started with Soren all wrapped up as I often try to do. It lets babies get used to the environment even if they are sleepy, but especially if they are not sleepy. This usually conks them right out!
I was pretty giddy with excitement when I started putting the pieces of this together using inspiration they found off of Pinterest of swirls of teals, oranges, blues and golden yellows. We took these portraits in the Fall so I thought adding in the little leaves brought a touch of whimsy to the image. I didn’t realize until I was going through their images that some of the leaves are shaped like little hearts. So adorable!
Next we moved on to this darling little set with a blue flokati rug and orange and blue wrap that is just full of texture and pattern.
We moved on to a fun set using mustard yellows, blue and orange. Soren started waking up a bit in this one but he sure looks peaceful here.
I loved this teal and yellow combination and Soren easily posed in a few different newborn poses so effortlessly. He really was just so good to me during his newborn portrait session in the studio. We started with what is traditionally called the Huck Finn Pose where baby is on his back. I love getting different angles of this pose including above like the one below and from the side. It’s a great pose to get close ups as well.
Then I moved onto the Side Lying Pose or some people call it the Angel Pose because of the hands together.
Then we moved onto the Head on Hands Pose which Soren looked adorable in.
We moved onto family portraits which I do prefer to do last if we can because I find that in between individual baby portraits and the family portraits is a good time for baby to be fed a full feed or a top up.
We do many combinations for family portraits. Individuals of each parent with baby (usually two poses chosen by each parent from a variety of options) and then combinations with both parents.
As is the case with each client, all portraits chosen by the parents in their online private proofing gallery also come with a custom black and white portrait. I love black and white portraits especially for family portraits and love giving clients the option to print whichever they love more.
If you are looking for newborn photography portraits of your little one, we would love to hear from you! We recommend booking your newborn due date into the calendar once you’ve reached your 2nd trimester and it gives us time to plan your session with you (colours, set choices) before baby’s arrival which can be a bit overwhelming for new parents. By taking care of all the details ahead of time, we can ensure you have a carefree newborn session in the studio. If you are choosing to wait until baby is born to see if it’s a boy or girl then giving us colour choices for both sessions is great. And as always we are here to help you every step of the way and make planning your session as easy as possible.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
