This was a fun session meeting a family that came from all over the world for a get-together at a beautiful cottage in Portland not far from Kingston, Ontario. I really enjoyed photographing all the various family dynamics and I hope you all enjoy my favourites from our photography session together!! Chrissy was excited to plan the session with me and I really enjoyed meeting everyone and had fun making the kids laugh. Enjoy just a few of my favourites from Chrissy’s extended family session.
Extended family photography sessions are a lot of fun because I am able to see the personalities of individual families as well as the dynamic of the whole collective. It’s fun to pick a location that works for everyone like a park or in Chrissy’s case a cottage that the entire family was meeting at as they were coming from all over North America. Choosing to have your session take place at the same time as a reunion or celebratory gathering allows everyone to feel comfortable, the kids to not have to travel again after traveling to the cottage already, sometimes from far away and allows children to take as many breaks as they need for snacks and bathroom. As a mom with two young kids I know how helpful that can be and can take a lot of stress out of the whole process. A family session should be stressfree. It should be about having fun, coming together and celebrating your people and what they mean to you. My goal is to capture that feeling; that love and the inevitable laughter that is bound to ensue. It really is an honour to be asked to photograph important life events. These are the times that are cherished and talked about lovingly over the years and I felt privledged to be apart of Chrissy’s families get together.
