I was excited to meet the Miller Family this past weekend for a number of reasons. First, because I just love meeting new families and creating an atmosphere of relaxtion and fun so we can get some family shots that really speak to who they are, not who they think they should be in front of the camera. I want them to be their authentic selves as Oprah might say 🙂
The second reason is because it would be my first real challenge as a Photographer in photographing an Autistic child. The only other Autistic child I’ve met was just such an amazing little boy, who loved taking my hand to show me Blues Clues on the TV. I just think the world of him and so I had an idea of what to expect. Autistic children tend to not look at you very often so I was hoping that luck would be on my side and I would capture that split second look.
Seth is 8 years old and I couldn’t have had more fun with him. I’m not sure if he is considered high-functioning or not (always with the labels geesh) but he was very verbal and was really excited about our photoshoot. I couldn’t make any loud noises which is usually my go-to backup plan to get a child’s attention but there was no need, he really was great at looking at me!
Spencer, his older brother was a little model! I loved his eyes and he loved to pose! It was great interacting with him as well 🙂 He had a good little snow ball fight with his Dad and it was great to spend some time with him separtely. Such a good big brother!
It was really a great experience meeting the Millers. They brought all their own props and were full of ideas. They even had a present opening! Snow and wrestling ended our time together = A great time 🙂
I hope you all enjoy the sneak peeks and I hope to meet you all again in the future!
Love Always,
Jen
