Say what???!!??? Okay. I know what you’re thinking.
You: “I love Perth”
You: “How dare she!”
You: “This girl is crazy!!”
So here it is. My 3 reasons why you shouldn’t live in Perth, Ontario, Canada.
- If you don’t like fresh, clean air, access to lakes everywhere you look and beautiful parks, countryside and highlands to explore, then Perth, Ontario is definitely not for you. This is a smog-free zone folks! I’m sure you can find some smog a couple of hours from here.
- If you don’t like simple living, where the going’s good and people say hello to each other when they pass on the street (some with Lanark County twang), then Perth, Ontario is definitely not for you. Just keep driving, we’ll wave you away with a smile and a nod.
- If you don’t like fun festivals that celebrate being the Maple Syrup Capital of Ontario, garlic deliciousness, summer days and the celebration of turning 200 years old then Perth, Ontario is definitely not for you! Just turn around, only fun people allowed in around these parts.
There it is folks. Reasons to not live in Perth. I mean who wants all that fresh, clean air, feelings of togetherness and community anyways? Pfft…not this girl….
Well…actually…that brings me to the reason for today’s blog post. That of course I’ve been avoiding for the last week, because let’s face it, it’s a hard one! I gave you 3 reasons why you shouldn’t live in Perth, Ontario. All the reasons why I love living here. Perth has been my home on and off again for the last 15 years. Perth, Ontario, with all it’s generosity and wonderful people, helped foster a young boy, who became a man, who became my husband. I’ll always be so grateful for that. He has changed my world and I’m looking forward to many visits to Perth in the future.
You: “Hold up?! Future???? But don’t you live here?”
Yep. I do…..For 21 more days.
Twenty-one more days. 🙁
Yep. It’s the end of an ERA.
This girl, is moving one hour away to the good city of Kingston. And while I’ll miss all that Perth has to offer, I’m actually really excited (re: terrified) to start a crazy new adventure with my family in K-town! I’m planning on exploring the city with the kids this summer and blogging about it between client sessions so I hope you’ll come back to see what’s new in my life.
So the big elephant in the room.
You: “BUT. BUT. BUT.”
I know.
So what does this mean for my clients? Well, not too much is changing to be honest. Outdoor sessions are still available in and around Perth as usual. I’ll still be available for cottage extended family sessions in the area, which is what most of my summers contain and regular family sessions around Perth are still a go. The new option will be you can come to me and explore the Kingston area. There are some pretty incredible parks and the river to get portraits around, especially near sunset… I seriously can’t wait for that part!
What does it mean for studio clients? Well, the ones that are scheduled in my calendar as of right now will have the option of having their sessions in the Perth area at a studio space I rent out, or come to Kingston to visit the new studio. I’m still committed 100% to my clients sessions and providing them with gorgeous portraits of their little loves. Those not in the schedule right now will have the option of having an outdoor session in the Perth area or they can come to Kingston to have a studio one.
You: “But, I love you! I’m a loyal client and have had you photograph our children in the past! I’m going to miss you!”
Me too my friend. Me too.
The good thing is that Kingston’s just a hop, skip and a jump away! I mean who here in Perth doesn’t drive to Kingston or Kanata to go to the movies on date night? Or go to Kids Kingdom, Fun Haven, Cosmic Adventures, the museums…… it’s really no different. If you love my style, my products, the beautiful portraits only I can take for you with my special spin on them then come for the drive. It really is a pretty drive, and with some tunes on you’ll be here before you know it.
You: “It’s too far 🙁 ”
That’s okay. I totally get it. I do.
And who likes change?
It’s hard.
You gotta do what you gotta do. And if you find that you can’t drive up for your studio session then no hard feelings. It’s all good. You’re still awesome in my books. I hope you’ll still continue to support my small business by following along on Facebook for updates on what we’re doing here at Jennifer Willard Photography (there’s some good stuff on the horizon with re-branding, community outreach, etc). I’ll still be holding mini sessions in Perth a couple of times a year and you may find that you want to make sure you get some great JWP portraits by waiting for that announcement. Sounds perfect! I can’t wait to see you!
I’ll be hosting a family mini session day in August and in October in Perth so I hope you’ll join me. If you would like to book a full session, please feel free to drop me a line. As I normally drive from Perth to Kingston and Ottawa for sessions, driving to Perth for a full family session is part of the routine and pleasure of my business. 🙂 I’d love to hear from you!
Well, I hope you forgive me for scaring you with that title. I hope in the future to have some great ideas for a list on why K-town rocks, but I know that living up to Perth is going to be some big shoes to fill.
I hope if you see us at the 200th Anniversary celebrations and the Perth fair you’ll stop and say hello. I’m certainly going to miss seeing all of your smiling faces at Barnabe’s, the Chipmunk Chippery, Red Fox, Mexi’s (OMG I’m going to miss the chimichungas!!!! wahhhhh), Stewart Park, Conlon Farm, walking down Gore street…. it’s been a sweet ride.
But really… all the family still lives here, so I’m sure you can’t get rid of me that easily (insert Dr.Evil laugh here).
Well, if I don’t see ya…
Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening and Goodnight.
Jen xoxo
P.S. be sure to check back for new blog posts of your favourite Perth families as I’m 1,2,3………..30 blog posts behind. Geeeeeze, I need to get on that! But first let me take a selfie pile of clothes to put in that big U-Haul box!!!
