Sweet little Alexis came to see me for some first birthday cake smash fun! I really enjoyed her shy smile and she gave dad her big laughs so I was happy that he wanted to assist me. We went with a pink themed cake smash and used creams, purple and blues for her regular portraits.

Look how much fun she had smashing that cake and celebrating her first birthday milestone! It really is fun to plan a baby photography set and see it used in a good cake smash! Alexis wasn’t afraid of the cake either – some babies can be uneasy or maybe don’t like getting their fingers messy…you just never know the reaction they may but it sure is fun to document it. I especially love the babes that bend right over and put their faces in the cake – most times it’s their first time trying icing sugar and I don’t know about you but who doesn’t love eating cake frosting!!!
Some clients ask if I provide the cake, and the answer is no, I’m not able to for liability reasons but I like to encourage clients to choose a colour combination and then pass that on to me so I can create a set that will match it. I can give recommendations for bakeries that can create cake smash cakes as well and ones that can keep any dietary concerns in mind as well.
Cake smashes always come at the end of the first year birthday milestone photography session because well let’s face it after that much mess and sugar there is no way we are going to be able to have a photoshoot again!

I recommend booking your session at least 1 month in advance if possible so I can start planning the sets and create any backdrop elements I may want to incorporate.
